Each trail offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and thrilling adventures. Join us on a virtual journey as we unveil the wonders awaiting you in Tepelena.

Route 1: Church of Saint Michael and Lekli Castle

Embark on a cultural and naturalist path that takes you through the heart of Tepelena’s history. Begin your journey at the Church of Saint Michael, a cultural monument dating back to the 18th century. Marvel at the ruins of the Church of Saint Thomas in Lekël village before reaching the iconic Church of Saint Ilias, built during the reign of Ali Pasha.

As you traverse the ancient settlement of Lekli Castle, immerse yourself in the stories of the past. This Illyrian fortress, believed to have its origins in the 4th century BC, offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

Route 2: Ali Pasha’s Aqueduct

Step into the footsteps of Ali Pasha Tepelena as you embark on a journey along the Benca River. Begin your adventure at the historic Burg Bridge and follow the path created during Ali Pasha’s reign. Discover hidden sources of drinking water and take moments to rest by the river’s edge.

As you approach Ali Pasha’s aqueduct, marvel at this incredible feat of engineering. Built to bring water to the fortress of Tepelena, the aqueduct stands as a testament to the region’s rich history. Continue your journey towards Teqeja e Bênça, a sacred site dating back to 1925.

Route 3: Nivica Waterfall

Prepare for a breathtaking adventure as you journey through the heart of Nivica village. Begin your hike from the village center and traverse a moderately difficult path leading to the spectacular waterfall nestled in the canyons below.

Along the way, you’ll pass by the ruins of Nivica Castle, a historical gem dating back to the 4th-2nd century BC. Follow the orientation signs and descend into the open path, meandering downhill until you reach the top of the waterfall. Take a moment to bask in the beauty of the natural pool created by the continuous water flows.

Cross the stone bridge and discover the enchanting “Vajza” Cave, a natural rock formation just a minute’s walk from the waterfall. On your return journey, indulge in the warm hospitality of the local guesthouses, offering delightful meals and cozy lodgings.

Route 4: Peshtura Waterfall

Embark on an unforgettable journey from the center of Progonat village, the heart of upper Kurveles. Surrounded by a crown of mountains and caressed by the west winds, Progonat is a settlement steeped in pre-Christian and early Christian history.

As you descend into the canyon, prepare to be awestruck by the majestic Peshtura Waterfall. With a height of approximately 400 meters, this natural wonder creates a dazzling display of rainbow colors as the water cascades down from the Gurra Se Progonati Stream.

Explore the nearby Mother of Water Cave, a karst cave formed in Upper Cretaceous limestone, and be captivated by its intricate labyrinth of branches, water wells, and rare concretions. The Rock Hole and Cave of Kasari offer even more geological wonders for the intrepid explorer.
