Achieving biodiversity conservation through effective management and enhanced resilience to climate change in the existing protected area of the North Albanian Mountainous Region
This project contributes to UNEP’s Programme of Work 2022-2023 and implements part of a GEF 7 Project focused on biodiversity conservation and climate change resilience in Albania’s northern mountainous region. It aims to develop a valorisation study for the Albanian Alps National Park to support effective management planning and sustainable financing of the protected area. The study will detail environmental, climate, territorial and socio-economic aspects of the park to inform policy making and capacity building.
The Albanian Alps National Park currently lacks a comprehensive assessment of its ecological and socio-economic value, hindering effective management and conservation efforts.
This project will address this gap by providing a detailed analysis of the park’s resources, threats, and opportunities. The resulting valorisation study will serve as a foundation for developing an updated management plan and exploring sustainable financing mechanisms for the park’s long-term conservation.
