Guide to Energy Efficiency and Energy Savings in Households
Green and Sustainable Energy in Elbasan Buildings – GreenELB
Urban Research Institute, in collaboration with the Municipality of Elbasan, has prepared this publication in the framework of the project SGA NZC 101121530 – Subgrant – PCP3 – Elbasan, “Green and sustainable energy in Elbasan buildings”, implemented over the period 2024–2026 and funded by the European Union under the NetZeroCities programme. This document is a product of Activity A1.2.4, “Drafting the Energy Efficiency Guide,” and aims to improve the energy efficiency of residential buildings in Elbasan through data-driven interventions and increased public awareness.
The guide was developed based on an empirical study carried out with 108 families in the Vullnetari neighbourhood, applying a combined methodology, for instance, structured surveys, interviews, household observations, and energy audits. The findings confirm that minimal-cost interventions, such as replacing light bulbs with LEDs, insulating windows, installing a timer on the boiler, and eliminating standby power consumption, generate energy savings in the range of 15–25% per household, with a direct impact on reducing monthly bills.
